New! Free Webinar on Syntax Assessment!

Laureate offers free syntax assessment software designed to help professionals assess an individual’s understanding of 33 grammatical forms essential to sentence comprehension and production. Persistent difficulties with syntax are a defining characteristic of language impairments.

Now, Laureate is pleased to announce a free one-hour webinar conducted by Laureate’s President Dr. Mary Wilson (CCC-SLP).  The goal of this webinar is to have attendees learn how to use our Syntax Tests software to evaluate students with a variety of language needs. This training session is free of charge if you gather five or more speech-language pathologists or special educators in one location. All participants will be invited to download Laureate's Syntax Tests prior to the webinar and Dr. Wilson will be available to answer questions during the session.

The items in the syntax assessment have been taken from two of Laureate’s new Sterling Editions programs, LanguageLinks®: Syntax Assessment & Intervention and Prepositions! Together, these programs test and train over 85 syntactic forms necessary for basic sentence comprehension and production. Both programs help students build language and become better communicators.

The LanguageLinks and Prepositions! software is appropriate for use with:

  • Pre-K through elementary school students with language disorders, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders, Specific Language Impairment, and Cognitive Impairments
  • Pre-K through 3rd grade English language learners (ELL)
  • Kindergarten and 1st grade children at risk for reading failure in schools using the Response to Intervention (RTI) model of service delivery.

Development of these programs was supported by Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD).

The Syntax Tests software can be used to test understanding of basic sentence forms. During the webinar, attendees will learn to effectively use Laureate’s Syntax Tests for language assessments, AT and AAC evaluations, as well as pre-school and kindergarten screenings. Since scanning is built-in, it is also a useful tool for assessing individuals who use a single switch. Participants will also learn how to produce and interpret the various built-in reports.

Assessment is just the first step in intervention. Following an in-depth review of the Syntax Tests software, participants will learn how to use Laureate’s LanguageLinks: Syntax Assessment & Intervention and Prepositions! software to deliver services to students in various educational settings.
